Something went wonderfully wrong.
One batch of our Rhubarb & Custard drew far darker than it had any right to be — the colour of a midnight sky. The beetroot we colour it with — colour only, it adds no flavour — arrived at a strength we had never seen. We dosed it the way we always do, and what came out of the tank was almost black.
Tom's dad took one look and called it a witches' brew. The name stuck.
Same tangy rhubarb. Same soft custard sweetness. A colour we have not been able to repeat since — so rather than waste it, we are bottling it as a one-off at 37% vol.
Tasting notes
Sharp forced rhubarb up front, thick vanilla custard through the middle, then a long sweet-tart finish. Far softer than it looks.
A note on the beetroot: beetroot is used here purely as a natural colouring. It is not a flavour ingredient and you will not taste it — this is the same Rhubarb & Custard you already know, in a colour that happened once.
How to drink it
Neat over one big rock of ice. Or long, with ginger ale and a wedge of lime.
One batch only — 350 numbered bottles
Every bottle is individually numbered, No. 001 of 350 through to the last one. This is a single accidental batch: when it is gone, it is gone, and we genuinely cannot make it again.
